Two Major Water Projects Transforming Faisalabad Supply

Denmark- and France-supported projects aim to expand water treatment capacity and improve clean-water access across densely populated areas of Faisalabad.

FAISALABAD: Two major water treatment projects with a combined stated capacity of 63 million gallons are under development in Faisalabad, with officials saying more than 1.3 million residents are expected to benefit from improved access to clean water.

According to the Punjab Housing Department, work is underway on the 33-million-gallon-capacity Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant with Danish cooperation, while a Surface Water Treatment Plant Phase-II is being developed with French support.

Two Water Treatment Projects Underway

Officials said the surface water initiative includes a 25-million-gallon-per-day treatment plant, while an additional five million gallons per day will be added to the system through expansion of the Jhal Water Treatment Plant.

Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal inspected the projects and directed the authorities to ensure that all associated construction work is completed within the stipulated deadlines.

Officials Review Project Progress

Chinese experts working on the projects briefed the housing secretary about progress, while WASA Faisalabad Managing Director Saqib Haral conducted a detailed visit of the project sites with the delegation.

Mengal said providing clean water to Faisalabad residents remains a priority and that environmentally sustainable clean-water projects would be completed in line with the Punjab government’s directions.

Over 1.3 Million Residents to Benefit

The Housing Department described the two schemes as significant projects for Faisalabad, saying more than 1.3 million residents are expected to benefit.

According to the department, clean drinking water will be supplied to areas including Ahmad Nagar, Rachna Town and Elahi Abad. Densely populated localities along Jaranwala Road and Satiana Road are also expected to be connected to the water-supply network, extending coverage to a substantial population in the city’s eastern areas.
