LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday heard a petition challenging action against teachers and school heads over Class Nine examination results falling below 20 percent.
Justice Khalid Ishaq heard the petition filed by headmasters of four government schools in Pakpattan. Advocate Gulzar Hussain Sangla appeared on behalf of the petitioners.
Petition Challenges Action Against Teachers
During the hearing, counsel for the petitioners argued that the Punjab government had issued directions for action against teachers and school heads whose Class Nine results remained below 20 percent. Recent reports confirm that the provincial government has ordered action against schools with results below the 20-percent threshold.
The petitioners’ counsel contended that action had been taken without giving the affected officials an adequate opportunity to be heard and requested the court to set aside the orders against the headmasters and teachers.
LHC Directs Chief Secretary to Hear Petitioners
After hearing the arguments, Justice Khalid Ishaq directed the Punjab chief secretary to hear the petitioners and decide the matter in accordance with law.
2,200 Schools Reported Below Threshold
The Punjab government has recently intensified scrutiny of poorly performing government schools. Around 2,200 schools across the province were reported to have recorded Class Nine results of 20 percent or below.
