Punjab Seeks Rangers Deployment Ahead of PTI March

Punjab has sought Rangers deployment in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali until October 5, while army personnel have also been requested for Rawalpindi as authorities prepare for PTI’s announced September 27 march towards Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has approached the federal government seeking deployment of Pakistan Rangers in four districts as part of security preparations ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) announced September 27 march towards Islamabad, according to media reports citing official sources.

Rangers Sought in Four Districts

According to the reported request, Rangers personnel have been sought for Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali, while the Punjab Home Department has separately requested deployment of Pakistan Army personnel in Rawalpindi.

Deployment Requested Until October 5

The requested deployment period runs until October 5, with the proposed deployment aimed at assisting authorities in maintaining law and order during the expected political activity. The matter was also reportedly discussed by the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice.

Islamabad Security Preparations Intensified

The development comes as security preparations are also being intensified in the federal capital. Islamabad Police has sought approximately 18,000 additional police personnel from Punjab and Sindh, including 16,000 from Punjab Police and 2,000 from Sindh Police, according to the same report. Senior police officers have also been requested to support security arrangements.

Deployment Approval Not Yet Established

The deployment request does not by itself establish that the requested Rangers or army deployment has been formally approved; the report available at the time of publication describes it as a request sent by the Punjab government to federal authorities.
