LHC Issues Notices Over Sale of Camera Glasses

Petition claims camera-equipped glasses capable of discreet recording are openly available in markets without regulatory approval; court adjourns hearing until October 8.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to relevant government authorities on a petition seeking a ban on the sale of glasses fitted with cameras, with the petitioner arguing that such devices pose privacy and security risks.

Petition Seeks Ban on Camera-Equipped Glasses

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition filed by Nadra Bibi, while Advocate Shahram Saqi appeared on behalf of the petitioner.

The petition maintained that camera-equipped glasses are being sold at major shops and superstores and can allegedly be used for discreet recording without the knowledge of people being filmed.

Privacy and Security Concerns Raised

According to the petitioner, the availability of such devices poses potential security and privacy concerns. The petition further claimed that no approval had been obtained from the relevant government authorities for their sale.

The petitioner requested the court to order an immediate ban on the sale of camera-equipped glasses and seek explanations from the responsible regulatory institutions.

Notices Issued to Government Authorities

The court issued notices to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Information and NCCA, seeking their responses.

Hearing Adjourned Until October 8

The hearing was adjourned until October 8.
