Lahore’s PIMH Marks World Mental Health Day With Awareness

Punjab Institute of Mental Health organizes awareness walk and creative activities, emphasizing patient dignity, social acceptance and the importance of listening to lived experiences.

LAHORE, October 10, 2026: The Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) in Lahore marked World Mental Health Day with an awareness event highlighting the importance of compassion, respect, social acceptance and rehabilitation for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.

The event emphasized that people living with mental health conditions need more than medical treatment. Emotional support, understanding, dignity and opportunities to participate actively in society are equally important for their well-being and recovery.

World Mental Health Day Awareness Walk Held

This year’s World Mental Health Day theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” focuses on recognizing the experiences of people living with mental health conditions and ensuring their perspectives are reflected in healthcare policies, services and decision-making.

The celebrations began with an awareness walk attended by medical professionals, students and people from various walks of life. Participants highlighted the need to increase public awareness, challenge negative stereotypes and encourage a more inclusive approach to mental healthcare.

A major highlight of the event was an exhibition of artwork and creative activities produced by patients. The displays showcased their artistic abilities, creativity and confidence while highlighting the role of meaningful activities in rehabilitation.

Experts Call for Compassion and Social Inclusion

Speakers stressed that eliminating discrimination and negative social attitudes toward mental health conditions remains essential. They emphasized that individuals receiving mental healthcare should be treated with dignity and encouraged to participate in community life.

Mental health experts also highlighted the importance of listening to patients, understanding their personal experiences and involving them in decisions concerning their care and recovery.

According to the experts, genuine progress in mental healthcare requires a shift in public attitudes, with greater attention to emotional well-being, social inclusion and patient-centered support.

The event concluded with a message encouraging families, healthcare professionals and communities to approach mental health challenges with empathy, understanding and respect.

Experts reaffirmed that meaningful change can only be achieved when mental health is recognized as an essential part of overall human health and well-being.
