LAHORE: Questions have emerged over the issuance of a fitness certificate to a school building in Baghbanpura, Lahore, which was reportedly sealed three months ago following an incident that claimed the life of a child.
Questions Over School Reopening and Fitness Certificate
According to allegations shared on social media, the school, previously operating as Al-Nasr School, was sealed after the incident, three cases were registered, and junior-level officials were suspended following action by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) concerned.
The same building is now reportedly operating under a new name, Wise Cliff School, and has been issued a fitness certificate by the same CEO, raising questions about the basis on which the building was declared fit.
The development has prompted calls for the relevant authorities to clarify whether a fresh inspection was conducted, what safety improvements were made, and which criteria were used to issue the certificate.
Calls for Transparency and Official Inquiry
If the building was considered unsafe following the earlier incident, the authorities should explain what corrective measures have since been completed. If it was found fit for use, questions remain about the grounds for the earlier sealing of the premises and the action taken against officials.
The matter also warrants transparency regarding the registration of the new school, the inspection report, and the circumstances under which the fitness certificate was issued.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and the School Education Department have been urged to examine the matter and establish the facts.
The allegations have not been independently verified. The relevant authorities’ response, the official inspection report, and the details of the registered cases are needed to determine whether any procedural irregularities occurred.
