LAHORE: Punjab’s Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department has initiated what it describes as an impartial review of alleged irregularities involving BS-17 and above appointments at Jinnah Hospital Lahore and Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), according to a spokesperson for the provincial health department.
Review of BS-17 and Above Appointments
The spokesperson said the review is aimed at examining whether appointments, recruitments and contract extensions were made in accordance with applicable laws, rules and the prescribed approval process of the competent authority.
Matter Discussed Since September 2025
According to the department, the issue concerning BS-17 and higher-level appointments had remained under discussion in meetings of the Board of Management since September 2025. The Specialized Healthcare Department had directed the board to examine the appointments and reach a final decision on the matter.
Institutional Responsibility Under Review
The department maintained that any appointment or extension involving an alleged excess of authority, ambiguity in official records or absence of required approval could not be treated as a routine administrative matter.
The spokesperson said institutional responsibility would also be determined as part of the exercise, both to establish the circumstances surrounding any past irregularities and to prevent similar issues in the future.
Merit and Transparency Emphasized
The department said merit and transparency in government hospitals and medical institutions would be maintained and that appointments must be made through the legally prescribed authority and approval mechanism.
Publicly available Punjab health records confirm that AIMC/Jinnah Hospital has posts at BS-17 and higher grades and that the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department maintains formal administrative processes for appointments and seniority matters.
