LAHORE: Lahore Police have arrested the main suspect in a bank robbery in the South Cantt area, recovering cash, weapons and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime.

Main Suspect Arrested in Bank Robbery

According to details released by police, the arrested suspect has been identified as Subhan Ali, a British citizen who had reportedly worked as a taxi driver in Scotland for around six years. Police said he arrived in Pakistan from the United Kingdom on September 16 and had also visited the country earlier in April.

Robbery Reportedly Carried Out in Nine Minutes

Investigators said the suspect entered the bank on Ghazi Road at approximately 9:19am and remained inside for around nine minutes. He allegedly fled after taking Rs726,000 from the cash counter and two weapons belonging to security guards. CCTV footage of the incident also emerged, showing a masked armed man inside the bank. Independent reporting confirms police subsequently traced and arrested a suspect identified as Subhan.

Cash and Weapons Recovered

Police said Rs426,000 in cash, two pistols and a 12-bore rifle were recovered following the arrest. A white Honda Civic RS Turbo allegedly used in the robbery was also recovered, with investigators saying its registration number had been concealed with black paint.

Police Detail Suspect’s Alleged Statements

According to police, the suspect told investigators that he had spent the £1,200 he brought from Britain and was looking for money. Police further said he disclosed purchasing a pistol from Sialkot in April and obtaining ammunition from the Thokar area. These details remain part of the police investigation and should be treated as investigators’ claims at this stage.

Investigation Into Weapons Supply

Authorities are also investigating the alleged illegal supply of weapons and how they reached the suspect. The recovered cash, firearms, vehicle and other evidence are being incorporated into the investigation record.

DIG Operations Praises Police Response

DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran said the arrest demonstrated that Lahore would not serve as a safe haven for people involved in crime. He also credited Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s technology with assisting police operations. Faisal Kamran has recently directed Cantt Division officers to respond promptly to Safe City alerts and strengthen measures against robbery, theft and other street crimes.
