LAHORE: Police have detained a man in Shahdara following the death of his wife, who had been undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital since October 1.
Woman Dies During Treatment
According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations Lahore, the woman passed away during treatment on Sunday evening. Police said preliminary observations raised concerns over marks found on her body, while stressing that the exact cause of death will only be established after the post-mortem report.
The spokesperson said police informed the deceased woman’s family about the legal procedure after the marks were noticed. Following receipt of an application from the family, proceedings were initiated in accordance with the law.
Police subsequently took the woman’s husband, identified as Zain-ul-Abideen, into custody over allegations of domestic mistreatment.
Investigation Underway
The body has been shifted for a post-mortem examination as part of the legal process. The detained man has meanwhile been handed over to the Investigation Wing for further inquiry.
Police said further investigation is underway, and the final cause and circumstances surrounding the woman’s death will be determined on the basis of medical findings and the investigation.
