NCCIA Lahore Detains 17 Women Over Alleged Online Fraud

Cybercrime investigators recover 35 mobile phones and two laptops during an operation targeting alleged online financial exploitation through live-chat and live-streaming platforms.

LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore has detained 17 women during a raid on a call centre allegedly involved in cyber-enabled fraud, online exploitation and other unlawful digital activities.

According to NCCIA officials, the operation was part of a series of raids conducted against multiple call centres suspected of involvement in illegal online activities.

17 Women Detained in Call Centre Raid

During one of the raids, investigators allegedly discovered that female operators were being employed to communicate with individuals in Pakistan and abroad through live-chat and live-streaming platforms.

The operators reportedly developed emotional relationships with users through online conversations and video interactions, encouraging them to send virtual gifts, digital coins and other monetary rewards.

Investigators further alleged that some operators engaged in inappropriate activities during live video calls to obtain additional financial benefits from online users.

According to the agency, the virtual gifts and digital rewards were subsequently converted into monetary value, generating financial gains for the call centre and its operators.

Mobile Phones, Laptops Recovered

During the operation, NCCIA personnel apprehended 17 women and recovered 35 mobile phones and two laptops suspected of being connected to the alleged activities.

Authorities said further investigation and legal proceedings are underway to establish the full extent of the suspected online activities and the involvement of individuals associated with the call centre.

The allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial determination, and the detained individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
