Aleema Khan Detention Challenged Before Lahore High Court

Justice Abher Gul Khan questioned whether the petitioner had approached the relevant authority, while counsel argued the detention notification was issued after Aleema Khan and her driver had already been taken into custody.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday heard a petition challenging the detention of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan and her driver, with the matter set to be taken up again on Friday.

Petition Challenges Detention

Justice Abher Gul Khan heard the petition filed by Aleema Khan’s son, Shahraiz Khan. During the proceedings, the judge asked the petitioner’s counsel whether the relevant authority had first been approached against the detention order.

Counsel for the petitioner argued that the case was different from other detention matters, maintaining that the District Intelligence Committee proceedings and the detention notification were recorded on the same date.

Counsel Raises Questions Over Procedure

Barrister Taimur, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the sequence of events suggested Aleema Khan had first been taken into custody and that the detention notification was issued subsequently. The petition challenges the legality of the detention order and the procedure followed under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

The Punjab government was represented by Assistant Advocate General Muhammad Farrukh Khan.

Aleema Khan Detained for 30 Days

Aleema Khan was detained on September 20 under the MPO framework. Reports said the Lahore deputy commissioner ordered her detention for 30 days on public-order grounds.

Case to Be Heard Again on Friday

The matter is set to be taken up again on Friday.
