LAHORE: Thousands of Punjab Police personnel deployed in Islamabad and surrounding districts for security duties linked to PTI’s protest plans have reportedly faced difficulties due to inadequate food, accommodation and rest facilities.

Punjab Police Personnel Deployed for Security Duties

According to a report published by Daily Khabrain, personnel from different districts of Punjab were sent for deployment between September 21 and 23. The report says around 2,300 personnel were sent from Multan, while approximately 30,000 officers and personnel from across Punjab were deployed in Islamabad and surrounding areas.

Personnel Face Accommodation Challenges

Many personnel were accommodated in government schools and marriage halls, where some reportedly complained about inadequate sleeping and washroom facilities. Earlier reporting had confirmed that Islamabad authorities took control of 24 educational institutions to accommodate security personnel brought into the capital.

Reports of Limited Food and Rest

The Khabrain report further claims that personnel at some locations received food only once a day, with dal and rice frequently provided. Personnel reportedly complained that prolonged duties, inadequate rest and limited facilities were causing fatigue.

Personnel Allowed 24-Hour Leave

According to the same report, officials subsequently allowed personnel to take 24-hour leave to return home. It also reported that Elite Force personnel were ordered to return to their respective districts amid concerns about policing requirements there, although they could be recalled if needed.

Security Arrangements for PTI March

Separately, earlier reports said thousands of Punjab Police personnel had been mobilised as part of security arrangements surrounding the planned September 27 PTI march, including deployments in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock.
