LAHORE: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and Information Minister Azma Bukhari have approved a series of measures aimed at improving academic opportunities, facilities and administrative management at Government Fatima Jinnah Graduate College for Women, Chuna Mandi, Lahore.
The decisions were taken during a meeting of the college’s Board of Governors chaired by the two provincial ministers, where the institution’s performance, enrolment and administrative matters were reviewed.
Honhaar Scholarships for Students
According to details shared after the meeting, all college students who have applied for the Honhaar Scholarship will be provided scholarships. The Punjab Higher Education Department currently lists the Honhaar Scholarship Programme among its major initiatives.
The ministers also rejected the college management’s recommendation to increase student fees and directed the administration to improve facilities for students. The college describes itself as a women’s institution serving students from Lahore’s Walled City.
Skills Courses and Staff Appointments
Rana Sikandar Hayat approved the introduction of skills-development courses at the college and directed the administration to hire a music teacher. Instructions were also issued to appoint female sanitation staff and a female caretaker.
The ministers further ordered the college to digitise its payment system and conduct an audit of previous payments.
Restrictions Around Girls’ College
Azma Bukhari directed the administration to strictly restrict unnecessary movement of people around the girls’ college during morning and afternoon hours.
Concerns Over Enrolment and Facilities
Both ministers also expressed concern over enrolment and indicated that stronger administrative measures could follow if the college management failed to improve student numbers. They directed immediate steps to upgrade facilities, saying negligence in providing essential facilities would face action.
