Punjab Assembly MPA Hostel Phase-II Delayed, Costs Billions

C&W Department sources say the long-delayed 102-suite project remains incomplete, with funding constraints threatening further cost escalation.

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly’s MPA Hostel Phase-II project remains incomplete after years of delays, with its cost rising and construction progressing at a slow pace, according to sources in the Punjab Communication and Works (C&W) Department.

Sources said the project cost has increased from more than Rs3 billion to around Rs4 billion, adding further pressure on the provincial exchequer. They cautioned that delays in the release of funds could lead to another increase in the overall cost.

102 Suites Planned for Assembly Members

The project involves construction of 102 suites for members of the Punjab Assembly. According to the information provided by C&W sources, the estimated cost of an individual suite was initially around Rs10.5 million.

The project was formally approved in January 2020. Punjab’s development programme for 2022-23 listed the estimated project cost at Rs3.440 billion, with Rs1.389 billion shown as accumulated expenditure up to June 2022.
