Ten Teams Deployed Against Smoke-Emitting Lahore Vehicles

Ten special teams will conduct emissions tests at Lahore’s key entry points and major roads, with non-compliant vehicles facing removal and impoundment.

LAHORE: Authorities have launched a major crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles across Lahore as part of intensified efforts to control air pollution ahead of the smog season.

10 Teams Deployed to Check Vehicle Emissions

The Environment Protection Department has deployed 10 special teams at major entry points and key roads across the city to conduct strict monitoring and emissions testing of vehicles.

Vehicle inspections will be carried out at important entry points including Thokar Niaz Baig, Shahdara and Saggian, where environmental teams will check vehicles against prescribed emission standards.

Under the campaign, vehicles producing emissions beyond permissible limits will face strict action. Non-compliant vehicles may be stopped from operating and taken into custody, while vehicles failing to meet environmental requirements will be removed from Lahore’s roads.

Authorities have also warned that vehicles operating without the required green sticker will not be tolerated during the enforcement campaign.

Traffic Police personnel will assist environmental teams in safely stopping vehicles and facilitating roadside inspections at designated locations.

Detailed Records to Be Maintained

Each enforcement team has also been directed to maintain a detailed record of inspected vehicles, including registration information, emissions readings, environmental compliance status and any action taken.

The campaign is aimed at targeting vehicular emissions before smog conditions intensify, with authorities identifying transport-related pollution as one of the major sources requiring stronger monitoring.

Director General Environment Abdullah Nayer Sheikh said vehicles violating environmental standards would not be permitted to operate on the roads.

The Environment Protection and Climate Change Department is responsible for pollution-control measures and enforcement of environmental standards across Punjab.
